LANDscape[s]
LANDscape[s]: Artworks from the MAPSA Collection of Contemporary Art
This exhibition in Riebeek Kasteel during the Solo Studios weekend is a collaboration between Modern Art Projects South Africa (MAPSA), die Kunshuis, and Solo Studios, Riebeek Kasteel. The exhibition is curated Miné Kleynhans from the University of the Free State.
LANDscape[s] is a selection of works from the MAPSA collection of contemporary art that is located in Richmond, in the Northern Cape. The exhibition offers reflections on the imaginings that this space elicits: ruminations on the passage of time, excavations into our past, the meaning and consequence of our present endeavours and that which will one day become relics to our future selves.
MAPSA was founded in 2005 by Harrie Siertsema and artist and curator Abrie Fourie.
The exhibition includes a wide range of South African and international artists, including artists from Riebeek Kasteel, whose work have been taken up in the collection, including Emma Willemse (and Michael Blake) and former resident, Loni Drager, who passed away in 2014.
