A short introduction talk about my work process, with examples of my work and working method.

This is a direct method of working onto a Perspex plate using an etching needle or craft knife. We will transfer the design onto the Perspex using different mark making techniques, before proofing and printing the image. Each participant will learn to ink and print their drypoint on cotton paper.

Each participant will need to bring:

- Sketches or reference material of images to be translated into prints.

- Pencil, koki pen, craft knife (or etching needle if you have).

Materials included in workshop:

- 1x sheet of Fabriano paper

- 2x Perspex plates size: 20 x 30 cm, 15 x 20 cm 

- Printing ink

- Solvents and cleaning materials

About the Artist

Judy Woodborne is a printmaker and painter.   She received her BA Fine Arts from Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT, in 1988; a postgraduate advanced diploma with distinction in Printmaking, UCT, in 1989 and her Master of Fine Arts at Michaelis, in 1993 with distinction. Recent solo exhibitions include RMB Latitudes Art Fair, represented by Lizamore & Associates, Johannesburg and Narrative, Gallery Sperman, Berlin Germany.

She completed residencies at the Grafische Werkstatt im Traklhaus, (Austria), Cite des Artes in Paris, and Café Tissardmine in Morocco (2019). She was the ABSA KKKunsfees Festival Artist in 2007 and presented an exhibition titled "Alternative Histories" at the Salzburg Summer Festival in 2015. She was a guest curator for the Woordfees 2018 and 2019. She was awarded the prize of S.C. Bes Romania S.R.L. in the International Contemporary Engraving Biennial, Romania in 2020, Celommi Award in the Third International Engraving Biennale, Teramo, Italy 2023 and finalist in ROC Print Biennial held in Taiwan 2024. Her work is in local and international collections including the IZIKO South African National Gallery in Cape Town and the Smithsonian Institution (The National Museum of African Art) in Washington.
